Devoted to helping the foster children and their families in Williamson County, Texas.

How we help…

Children in Foster Care

Currently there are currently approximately 215 Williamson County children involved in the foster care system.  In conjunction with the Williamson County Commissioners Court, the board works to ensure children’s basic needs are met through regular clothing allowances, medical and therapeutic interventions, etc. Things that would not otherwise be available to them.

As a Friends board, and through your generous donations, we are able to go beyond basic needs and provide children in foster care items not covered by the state or county.  This year we have been able to send several children to summer camps, provide graduation items such as caps and gowns, award college scholarships and provide ongoing support to young people in college by providing a monthly allowance. We also provide holiday gifts, gift cards for birthdays, school supplies, and much more.

Caregivers for Children in Foster Care

The board strives to support those who care for children in foster care.  We provide support to both family members caring for their relative children as well as citizens who open up their home to a foster child. The board provides this support in a variety of ways.  For both foster and relative caregivers, we annually provide families with Mothers/Father’s Day gift cards, holiday gifts for the children in their care, and school supplies.  Additionally, we help relative caregivers working to become licensed foster or adoptive parents by supplying items for their home such as fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, car seats, etc.

Child Protective Service Workers

These workers are on the front lines - they are the first line of defense for the children in need. Our organization supports the workers in various ways to show our community’s appreciation for their hard work. We have quarterly appreciation events including giving Starbucks gift cards, Thanksgiving pies and in-office massages. We also help to fund additional training for workers to attend specialized workshops and conferences.

Rainbow Rooms

A Rainbow Room is an emergency resource center available to CPS caseworkers to help them meet the critical needs of abused and neglected children. It consists of a store-like setting that allows Child Protective Services workers to go “shopping” for the children and families on their caseloads. The room is stocked with new items such as clothing, shoes, toys and games, diapers, formula, school supplies, hygiene products and cleaning products. Every item in the Rainbow Room is donated or purchased from donations. We accept donations from both the public and organizations; please contact us if your organization would like to hold a fundraiser. Our Amazon wish list can be found here: https://a.co/ii7R4Ta

Fundraising

Traditionally, our board holds an annual in-person fundraiser. Our 2023 Casino Night fundraiser was a HUGE success - we were able to raise over $20,000 which will all go directly to children in foster care and their families! We’ve already started planning next year’s fundraiser. There are many ways you can help - the list is below - and if you’d like to be part of our planning committee, please email us at wccwboard@gmail.com

Community Outreach

Our mission is to protect children in Williamson County - but we cannot do it alone. Our outreach includes: Educating the community on the needs of children and Child Welfare policies, programs and needs. We encourage community and individual involvement in child welfare. We work with the CPS workers to identify gaps in children's services and find the resources to fill them; monitor services to children in the community; stimulate reporting of child abuse and neglect; work for the prevention of child abuse and neglect. We seek to improve community understanding of the welfare client, the abusive parent, and the foster child. Events will be posted on social media - we hope to see you there!
